Submission for RenderWeekly's Sheet Metal challenge.
My Approach
Sheet metal can be an incredible efficient material. My goal was to create an end table that offers multiple sized storage areas but only uses two pieces of metal, with all of the changes in direction able to be done by simple bending.

Vision and Innovation
Primary colors are back in style. I wanted to create something simple but loud, a statement piece that can add a pop of color into your space. By utilizing different sized storage areas around the end table, the user can stay organized and have a dedicated spot for each item. Similarly, the fluted floor section lets the user slot their books into the end table without having to worry about them falling over.
Identifying Unique Challenges
Finding a way to achieve this many bends in a piece of sheet metal would be a challenge. It would take several rounds of testing and custom form-creation presses to make it happen.
Similarly, finding a way to slot the two pieces together with a snug fit and using a bonding method that is not visible to the user would take several rounds of trial and error.
Designing and Rendering
This model was created in Fusion360 and rendered in KeyShot. I have been focusing on creating more photoreal renders, and with this project I found a combination of material and lighting that made a significant step closer to that level.
Conclusion
This project, albeit simple, was a massive step in my rendering skill level. This work was well rewarded, as my submission on the RenderWeekly website was featured in their gallery, giving my product exposure and some much-needed recognition.
