3D-printed fluted lamp, created as a Christmas Gift

My Idea

Fluted lamps are very trendy right now, and with the resources to create one for myself at my disposal, I saw an opportunity to add an extra personal touch to Christmas time.

Identifying Unique Challenges

This product posed 2 challenges: integrating the electronic components and making a thin enough shade to diffuse light without being so thin that it falls in on itself while printing.

Resolving Problems

To solve the electronics problem, I picked out a generic lamp shade base, took measurements to create a digital copy in Fusion360, and created my model around it.

To find the right shade thickness, all it took was some extra research to find that 0.8mm is enough to support itself and still do its job as a lamp shade.

Done In One Try

Thanks to my digital copy of the electronic components and careful consideration during the 3D modelling process, I was able to get everything right on the first try.
